PLEASE NOTE: Theater rentals are generally only considered for Sunday evenings and Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8am throughout the day and evening. Though costly, Fridays, Saturdays and earlier Sunday hours will be considered. Minimum rental block is two hours. Preferred payment for theater rental is by check.
The Salem Cinema mission is to entertain, inspire, educate and connect the community through the art of film. We take this mission seriously and endeavor to create unique programming that sets us apart from other venues and provides the community with a space to actively engage with all manner of film. One way that we integrate the community’s input with our programming is through the Theater Rental Program. This program grants access to Salem Cinema via industry standard four-wall rental to organizations, filmmakers and other individuals who wish to present a film that is in line with our mission and image. Event requests are vetted through our programming staff to ensure continuity with our current offerings. Studios requesting four-wall events require special consideration. Salem Cinema will also consider rental for meeting space and non-film events during our off-schedule hours.
Approved Theater Rental Program events are presented by outside individuals and organizations, rather than Salem Cinema. While ticket sales are frequently run through our ticketing system, ticket prices are set by the renter and ticket sales (minus nominal fees) are the renters to keep. The Theater Rental Program provides the community with access to one of Salem’s most unique and recognizable venues and is a very popular option for independent filmmakers premiering their new work, nonprofits* and community organizations wanting to educate the public about environmental, health or social issues through film or host a meeting or seminar that requires screen projection.**

**For meetings and seminars that do not require screen use please request special consideration for reduced rates.
Salem Cinema offers the following amenities:
- Three auditoriums featuring both staduim and floor seating capacity that ranges from 141 to 36
- A wide variety of projection capabilities, including digital
- State-of-the-art audiovisual systems
- P.A. systems available upon request (additional cost may be incurred)
- Tables & chairs
- A full-service concessions stand
- Technical staff
- Front-of-house staff to take tickets and manage comp-lists
- Ticketing set-up and sales
These rates are competitive, with special discounts for nonprofits and independent filmmakers. They do not apply to professional film studio requests. Click here for Salem Cinema venue rental rates.
*Please note that Salem Cinema is available for events which are considered, based on the sole judgment of management, to be consistent with our mission and image. Events that include a live band are discouraged, although acoustic musicians may be permissible provided that they play at a volume that doesn’t interrupt the film-viewing experience of audiences in other auditoriums. Please notify us during your initial inquiry if your event will require performance by a musician.
