A powerful statement on behalf of transgender rights, BORN TO BE is an enlightening, compassionate documentary!

There, for the first time ever in New York City, transgender and gender non-binary people have access to quality gender-affirming care. With extraordinary access, this remarkable documentary offers an intimate look at how one doctor’s work impacts the lives of his patients as well as how his journey from renowned plastic surgeon to pioneering gender-affirming specialist has led to his own transformation. With its melancholy, meditative tone and stripped-down aesthetic, LUXOR is a film of heartfelt introspection.

In writer/director Zeina Durra's restrained story of romance post-trauma, the gorgeous Egyptian city of Luxor serves not only as the film’s setting but also as a point of remembrance and as an ode to the past. Andrea Riseborough shines as the naturally playful and delicately subdued Hana who is seeking mental peace and physical respite after an overwhelming period spent working at a clinic where she specialized in treating victims wounded in the war in Syria. She finds solace in a nostalgic solo trip to Luxor, Egypt, where she lived in her 20s and dated a handsome archeologist. As she lingers through memory-filled hotel lobbies and ancient sites, longing for intimacy, she begins to grapple with her grief and her emotions from the war. LUXOR honors the belief in energies, timing and the magic of second chances.

A few colorful old coots light up CITIZENS OF THE WORLD, a warm comedy about finding the meaning of home.

This delightful fourth feature from late-blooming Italian writer-director-actor Gianni de Gregorio has him playing the same lovable, wine-quaffing schlub as previous works (MID-AUGUST LUNCH, THE SALT OF LIFE), only this time he’s a retired Latin professor whose quality of life is being hampered by his meagre pension. His old pal Giorgetto (Giorgio Colangeli) is in an even worse place, having been a layabout for most of his adult life and owing bar tabs all over town. On the advice of a loosely connected friend of a friend, they head out into the suburbs and meet the garrulous and salty furniture restorer Attilio (Ennio Fantastichini). A few shots of grappa later, and the three of them have reached the mutual decision to leave Rome and find a home where their money will take them a lot further. A spry, frisky Italian comedy, CITIZENS OF THE WORLD floats by gracefully on a wave of easy, lightly ironic charm.

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Deborah Shaffer & Rachel Reichman, QUEEN OF HEARTS: AUDREY FLACK is a spellbinding documentary about a trailblazing artist!

At 88 years-old, Audrey Flack holds a unique place in the history of contemporary art in America. Feminist, rebel, mother, painter, sculptor and teacher, Audrey’s often controversial 40-year career evolved from abstract expressionism in the 1950s to photorealism in the 1970s. One of the first women ever included in the famed Janson’s History of Art, Audrey continues to create, explore, and inspire with her unique style and indomitable spirit. QUEEN OF HEARTS follows Flack as she takes her work in a brand new direction and reveals her long-term struggles as the mother of a child with autism. Flack has something deep and genuine to communicate to the world. She is a provocateur and a rebel, an example and an inspiration. This engaging documentary is a moving portrait of an artist who is still testing, still experimenting, still searching.

One of the most insightful and harrowing examinations of American adolescence ever put on film, SMOOTH TALK is a landmark coming-of-age tale.

In her first lead role, 18-year-old Laura Dern gave one of her most stirring, layered performances in an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s 1966 short story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? She stars as Connie Wyatt, a teenager who spends her summer days moping around the house and exploring her sexuality in the Northern California suburbs. But the thrills and innocence of youth are forever shaded by the predatory behavior of an older man named Arnold Friend (Treat Williams) whom she encounters at a drive-in. SMOOTH TALK won the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize in 1986 and remains a carefully observed, shockingly powerful story of manipulation and deviance.

New 4K restoration undertaken by the Criterion Collection.

An elegant chamber piece that deals with life, death, family, guilt and grief in a beautifully austere way, COMING HOME AGAIN is a humbling, humanizing story.

Based on a personal essay by Chang-rae Lee published in The New Yorker, COMING HOME AGAIN, from acclaimed director Wayne Wang (SMOKE, THE JOY LUCK CLUB), is an intimate family drama about a mother, a son, and the burden of family expectations. Chang-rae, a first-generation Korean American, has returned to his family home in San Francisco to care for his ailing mother. He wants only to fulfill his role as the supportive son, but must also come to terms with his conflicted emotions towards his childhood. Taking place over the course of one full day, his memories become a doorway into a woman who was so much more than the mother he thought he knew.

A heartwarming documentary, THE DONUT KING transforms into a global story about immigration, ambition, hope and community.

The incredible story of Cambodian refugee and entrepreneur Ted Ngoy, with its hard-won ascendance and tragic collapse, is captured in THE DONUT KING, a stirring documentary from director Alice Gu. With its balance of poppy visuals and detailed history, about both war-torn Cambodia and about the business of donuts, it lovingly profiles Ngoy's life as well as the countless other donut shop owners like him. The film humanizes so many incredibly strong Americans who were welcomed by a country that, at the time, believed in outsiders instead of looking at them as some type of threat. Such support is infectious.

Giulietta Masina and Anthony Quinn's pitiable pair of outsiders provide a poignant contrast between gentleness and might in Federico Fellini's unforgettable parable, LA STRADA.

There has never been a face quite like that of Giulietta Masina. Her husband, the legendary Federico Fellini, directs her as Gelsomina in LA STRADA, the film that launched them both to international stardom. Gelsomina is sold by her mother into the employ of Zampanò (Anthony Quinn), a brutal strongman in a traveling circus. When Zampanò encounters an old rival in highwire artist the Fool (Richard Basehart), his fury is provoked to its breaking point. With LA STRADA Fellini left behind the familiar signposts of Italian neorealism for a poetic fable of love and cruelty, evoking brilliant performances and winning the hearts of audiences and critics worldwide.

Restored in 4K by the Criterion Collection and The Film Foundation at Cineteca di Bologna’s L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, from a 35mm dupe negative preserved by Beta Film GmbH. Restoration funding provided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Made in response to the times we are living in, THE ANTIDOTE weaves together stories of kindness, decency, and the power of community in America.

The divisions in the United States are what drive headlines and political discourse. But kindness — as a serious response, a vital counterbalance, and a tool to make things better — is instrumental to American life. Our country is filled with a constellation of everyday citizens not only performing small gestures or what’s often called random acts of kindness, but intentional, willful, and sometimes large-scale efforts to improve the lives of others. In fact, the bygone era of unity and hopefulness that politicians often evoke is actually put into action every day, made stronger by the connections different communities find. Searching for examples of that hopefulness was the mission that filmmakers Kahane Cooperman and John Hoffman set for themselves in THE ANTIDOTE. They find many including a subsidized housing center in Portland, Oregon that blends the needs of seniors and foster families. Isn't this what we all need now more than ever?

Mixing jagged humour with warmly honest undercurrents of emotion, DATING AMBER is a smart, relevant coming-of-age tale that broaches the topic of small-town prejudice.

DATING AMBER is a poignant, honest and funny look at the highs and lows of teenage life where the only way to fit in is to not be yourself – even if this goes against your very being. Set-in Ireland during the mid-90’s, Eddie and Amber decide to stage a relationship in order to stop everyone speculating about their sexuality. Eddie is keen to follow his Dad into the military, while Amber dreams of moving to the liberal hub of London. However, their ideal arrangement begins to fall apart, forcing Eddie deeper into denial as Amber realizes that a perilous future awaits her best friend unless she intervenes. DATING AMBER is a love letter to all those kids who are growing up in small towns and who need to escape in order to be themselves.

ALSO AVAILABLE ON THE BIG SCREEN! An ambitious and haunting film, MARTIN EDEN is a saga full of passion and politics, romance and tragedy, intimacy and epic sweep!

Adapted from a 1909 novel by Jack London yet set in a provocatively unspecified moment in Italy’s history, MARTIN EDEN is a passionate and enthralling narrative fresco in the tradition of the great Italian classics. Martin (played by the marvelously committed Luca Marinelli) is a self-taught proletarian with artistic aspirations who hopes that his dreams of becoming a writer will help him rise above his station and marry a wealthy young university student (Jessica Cressy). The dissatisfactions of working-class toil and bourgeois success lead to political awakening and destructive anxiety in this enveloping, superbly mounted tale.
